5 Tips On How To Use Optimism Daily

Positive thinking and a generally optimistic attitude are a wonderfully effective way of maintaining strength, balance, and a resolve to stay happy and healthy. There are a number of ways in which optimism can be integrated into day to day life, and the reality is that the more often an optimistic attitude is taken, the easier it is to remain generally optimistic. Here are five ways to implement a positive attitude every day.

1. Every Morning Think Of Three Things You Are Grateful For

Optimism and gratitude are closely related because feeling thankful is a constant reminder that things can and do work out sometimes. Get in the habit of reminding yourself of three things that  you are grateful for as soon as you open your eyes each morning. This is a simple and easy way to cultivate optimism for a number of reasons. Starting the day out with gratitude immediately puts you in a happy and positive mind set. It also helps you to be more aware of other things that you can and should feel grateful for as you move through out your day.

2. Set Daily Goals and Check Them Off As You Achieve Them

Setting and accomplishing goals helps bring about optimism because it is a reminder to yourself that you have within yourself the ability to bring about the change and results that you want to see. In addition to more long term goals, get in the habit of setting daily goals, which will afford you the chance to reinforce this belief every day. Aim for a balance between getting as much done as possible and making sure that most of the goals you set are reasonably attainable.

3. Think In Terms of What You Want To Happen, Not What You Don’t

Often, it may seem easier to default to keeping your mind set on the various things throughout your day that you are hoping will not happen. It may seem more natural, for example, to think “I hope I don’t miss the train,” than “I hope I get to the train on time.” These two thoughts are very similar, but one places an emphasis on negative thinking, while the other one is more optimistically minded. If you catch yourself tending toward negative thoughts, try to restate the thought from an optimistic point of view.

4. Commit One Small Act of Kindness Daily

Doing something nice for others has a wonderful way of encouraging optimism because it helps make you see the best version of yourself. It also has a tendency to spread happiness and optimism because the person who you do something nice for may go on to do the same. Committing an act of kindness can be as simple as paying a stranger a compliment or opening the door for someone who is struggling with groceries.

5. Smile!

Smiling is perhaps the easiest and quickest way to be optimistic anywhere at any time. Next time you find yourself feeling down, turn that frown upside down.
