Egypt announce squad to face Senegal and Tunisia for 2015 Afcon qualifiers
Egypt coach Shawky Gharib has named 18 players from the Egyptian Premier League to join the Pharaohs foreign-based squad for the camp to prepare for the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Head coach Shawky Gharib – who won the CAN three times in a row (2006, 2008 and 2010) as an assistant to coach Hassan Shehata – is bidding for a return to the championship in Morocco, after the team missed the last two editions in 2012 and 2013 under American manager Bob Bradley.
In the 2015 CAN qualifiers, Egypt will play in Group G alongside Tunisia, Senegal and Botswana. They are scheduled to be hosted by the Senegalese team on 5 September in the qualifiers opener.
Last week, Gharib named 12 foreign-based players to join the squad, including Chelsea’s Mohamed Salah and Hull City winger Ahmed Elmohamady.
Egypt local players’ squad:
Goalkeepers: Essam El-Hadary (Ismaily), Sherif Ekrami (Ahly), Ahmed El-Shenawy (Zamalek) and Amir Abdel-Hamid (Wadi Degla)
Defenders: Ahmed Saied Oka (Smouha), Shawki El-Saied, (Ismaily), Mohamed Abdel-Shafi, Hazem Emam, Omar Gaber (Zamalek) and Sabri Rahil (Ahly)
Midfielders: Hosni Abd-Rabou (Ismaily), Ibrahim Abdel-Khaleq (Smouha), Mahmoud Trezeguet, Hossam Ghaly (Ahly) and Moamen Zakaria (Zamalek).
Strikers: Khaled Qamar (Zamalek), Amr Gamal (Ahly) and Hani El-Egazy (Smouha)

Chelsea striker Mohamed Salah; Hull City right winger Ahmed Elmohamady; Basel’s Mohamed El-Nenny and Ahmed Hamoudy, the Nacional de Madeira duo defender Ali Ghazal and midfielder Saleh Gomaa, Grasshopper forward Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim ‘Kahraba’, Sporting pair midfielder Mahmoud Abdel-Razik ‘Shikabala’ and defender Rami Rabea; Rio Ave FC attacker Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’, Fiorentina defender Ahmed Hegazy and Ahmed Fathi who recently joined Qatari side Umm Salal.
