Hua Hin is a seaside resort on the Gulf of Thailand, in the southern Thai province of Prachuap Khiri Khan. It has grown from a quiet little fishing village into one of Thailands most fashionable seaside resorts offering various activities and services. Today, we will look into opportunities to practice Muay Thai, one of Thailands oldest traditional martial arts, in the area.
Grand Thai Gym and Stadium
Every Friday night (in high season on Wednesdays also), starting at 9 P.M., the Grand Thai Stadium invites its viewers to traditional Muay Thai matches. A variety of professional athletes are featured, of both western and Thai origin.
Additionally, the gymnasium offers one-on-one training for all age groups (men, women, and children) providing certified trainers and good quality equipment.
Thai Boxing Garden
Thay Boxing Garden is a smaller and more tourist-oriented venue. Fights are held on Tuesdays and Saturday evenings and are cheaper, nevertheless, for those who would like a taste of traditional Thai boxing, it can be equally entertaining. Sadly, the organization doesn’t offer training of any kind.
301 Muay Thai Camp
This gym may well be the most professional and well-equipped one in Hua Hin. They offer training on all levels, providing personal coaches and keeping up a strict training schedule that all trainees may join. Their website offers plenty of information about their set-up and also, ways to get there to help lost customers.
HuaHin Amazing Muay Thai Gym & Fitness
The center doesn’t only offer Muay Thai training opportunities (although this is the main area they cover), but also, different ways to stay fit. They believe that everyone should have their opportunity to a healthy lifestyle and act in an according manner. They follow strict policies regarding their customers (they always ask for consent before entering athletes to fights – look out for gyms that miss doing so) and offer a fair price for their services (although a bit more expensive than Por Promin Gym).
Situated 5 kilometers outside Hua Hin, Palapon training camp offers more peaceful surroundings for visitors and sportsmen. Their fitness and weight-loss camp is situated within walking distance of the beach and, besides Muay Thai training (mostly for non-professionals) they offer personalized fitness programs basic training in traditional martial arts, like Wing Tsun Kung Fu and Palapon.
Sitjaopho Muay Thai
Sitjaopho Muay Thai Training Camp is a newly founded camp and gymnasium with employing professional ex-Muay Thai fighters as teachers. They are a fresh and sanguine organization, and I do believe their training grounds would be interesting to explore.
As you see there are various opportunities in the Hua Hin-area regarding Muay Thai, whether you just want to enjoy an evening’s competition, learn new skills by watching famous competitors or join training and meet up with skilled athletes and experienced coaches. The best advice I can give you is to get out there and look around and start training!
