Florentino Perez has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo as a “legend” in wake of the No 7 becoming Real Madrid’s all-time top goalscorer.

Ronaldo overtook Raul Gonzalez as the most prolific hitman in Madrid’s history on Wednesday, courtesy of his double against Malmo, which brought him up to 324 goals, and the President paid tribute to the No 7 at a ceremony in his honour on Friday.

“Cristiano has lived his life by this badge,” he said.

“Real Madrid fans love you [Ronaldo] and truly adore you. We can feel your character and boundless ambition. You’re an example [to us all].

“Now, you just want to outdo yourself. You’ve won everything you could win with with Madrid and nothing has stopped you.”
