The Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Player of the Year or simply the Player of the Year  is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in English Football League.

The award has been presented since the 1973–74 season and the winner is chosen by a vote amongst the members of the players’ trade union, the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA).

The 2014  shortlist was full of exceptionally talented players including a former winner.  The 41st annual PFA Awards at the Grosvenor House in London on Sunday 27th April 2014 named Liverpool’s Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez that has been voted by his fellow members as the 2014 Men’s PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

He is the sixth player from Liverpool F.C to achieve and receive the accolade, following in the footsteps of Terry McDermott, Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, John Barnes and Steven Gerrard.

Since then Suarez has gone on to hit 30 goals so far in the Barclays Premier League which sees him sitting nicely at the top of the scoring charts. With the closest player to him being Daniel Sturridge, who has 20 goals to his name, it is clear to see why Suarez stood out to his fellow members as the worthy winner of the award.

Suarez will be now be focused on picking up another trophy at the end of the season, the Barclays Premier League title, to go along with his well-deserved PFA Men’s Players’ Player of the Year 2014 award.
